Have you had a family member spend time in prison?
Family Life Behind Bars is seeking two columnists who can produce a twice-monthly video about his or her experience and provide guidance for others in a similar situation.
No prior video experience or equipment is required. The videos would be about 2-3 minutes long. This part time position will not be sufficient to support yourself, but will provide a little extra spending money.

To apply for this position, please send a short email to info@livesinfocus.org describing your personal experience and how it affected your life. Also let me know what ideas you have for a column.

I applying for the part time job opening: I’ve locked-up twice in my life time all behind drugs. the reason I’ve became a repeat offender is . I didnt want to change , I thought that I could get smarter at the sell of drugs,it only got worse. I caught my first case in 98 then my second in 08. Upon release this last time i told my self im goin to make a change in order to do that i realize change start with me so i took out all the criminal think. So i stop hangin around old people places and things. That was the hardest thing to do. Cause i got called everything from fake to a sell out. As i began to apply my self to become a productive member of my comunity I keep gettin reject due the fact of my drug convictions i am still not working so I enrolled in school. to better myself to tell the ppl who still hold my past at fault that im trying something different. a father of six a wife to support. the main thing so who is getting released must have is a great support system without that they are doom to become repeat offenders..
Thank you for your time:
Mr. L.P.W
When I was a young man of 17 years I was involved in a contract murder. The set of cirumstances that lead to such a thing can easily be blamed on external factors e.g. unemployment, socio – economic conditioning .etc. However, I think it would be safe to say I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. So as a 17 year old the immediacy of such an experience left me numbed and unaware to the seriousness of such a crime. 5 years after the fast I was arrested and charged with murder for hire by the Feds. It was an organized crime situation so the RICO ACT swept us all up under conspiracy statutes. After the culture shock and trauma of the arrest I settled in and finally accepted a plea agreement of 15 years for conspiracy to murder and use of a firearm in a crime of violence. Out of those 15 years I served 13. The life experiences I acquired were crucial and very transforming. Spending most of my youthful years in prison educated me to such an extent. . .I believe with all of my body and soul . . .this education made me a better person. It stripped me of the artificialities of delusion and replaced them with a raw nakedness and vulnerability that eventually became my confidence. . .my strength.
